Liquitex Professional Gesso for Archival Surface Preparation and Ideal Paint Absorbency

Liquitex Professional Gesso is a high-quality acrylic-based primer designed to create the perfect foundation for oil, acrylic, and alkyd painting. With excellent tooth and adhesion, it primes surfaces like canvas, wood, paper, and even metal—offering a strong, archival ground that will last for generations. Just one coat often provides a smooth, uniform surface, but it can be built up or thinned (up to 25% with water) depending on your texture preference.

Compatible with all Liquitex products, this gesso can also be tinted to create custom-colored grounds. It delivers the ideal level of absorbency and stiffness, making it suitable for both painting and preliminary charcoal or pencil sketches. For oil painters, 2–4 coats with sanding in between is recommended for the best results.
