Industrial Strength Detergent for Fabric Prep and Dye Clean-Up

Synthrapol is a concentrated, pH-neutral liquid detergent made for textile artists and dyers. It is ideal for prepping fabric before dyeing by removing oils, waxes, and sizing that can cause uneven color. After dyeing, Synthrapol prevents backstaining by keeping loose dye suspended in water during washing, helping maintain crisp, vibrant results.

In addition to cleaning, Synthrapol can be used as a wetting agent in dye baths or mixed with fabric paint to improve penetration. Suitable for cotton, silk, wool, and other fibers, this versatile detergent supports even, professional-quality finishes across dyeing and painting projects.

Instructions

Prewash: Add 3 tablespoons (44 ml) of Synthrapol per 8 lb (3.63 kg) of fabric. For cotton and other cellulose fibers, also add 2 tablespoons (30 g) of soda ash. Wash in hot water for at least 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Afterwash: Rinse dyed fabric in cold water, then wash using 3 tablespoons (44 ml) of Synthrapol per 8 lb (3.63 kg) of fabric for 10 minutes. Use hot water for cotton and warm to cool water for silk or wool. Rinse thoroughly in cold water.

Wetting Agent: Add 2 to 3 drops per 5 lb (2.27 kg) of fabric in the dye bath, or 1 to 2 drops per 2 oz (59 ml) of fabric paint.
